Throughout the year, Wagrain and the region play host to numerous folk-heritage events. Especially on high church holidays, our guests are able to collect memorable impressions of our deeply rooted traditions  (Advent and Christmas, Easter, Harvest Festival, Corpus Christi, and so much more).

Without a doubt, an absolute highlight comes at Harvest Festival time, during which - from the beginning of September until the end of October - over 2,000 events are offered throughout the province of Salzburg.

Village and farm festivals, mountain masses, farmers' markets, Almabtrieb parades, Harvest Festival celebrations, farm tours and cattle auctions - a time of year when people come together!

During Harvest Festival events, you can enjoy fascinating insights into ancient crafts, including making wooden shingles, felting, binding decorative wreaths and schnapps distilling. The farmers offer the delicious fruits of their labor, while Harvest Festival restaurants cook them up into such traditional favorites as country doughnuts, Kasnock'n and bilberry dumplings, accompanied, perhaps, by a shot of rowanberry schnapps.
Cultural highlights in the Pongau region!

Over the course of the year, the Pongau offers numerous cultural events, and not only in the realm of folk culture and local traditions. The Wagrain Culture Walk, for example, leads you to the Joseph Mohr exhibition (pastor Joseph Mohr was the poet who penned the words to "Silent Night"), as well as to diverse memorial sites dedicated to Wagrain's famous writer, Karl Heinrich Waggerl.

Just a few minutes' drive away is the county seat, St. Johann im Pongau, home to the magnificent "Pongau Cathedral" and a rich cultural program.

And only 50 minutes from here is our provincial capital, Salzburg. A world-famous city due to its Festival, along with numerous cultural sites and attractions (Hellbrunn Palace with its trick fountains, Salzburg Cathedral, museums and more).
